JOB SUMMARY:

The WRD Permit Technician provides technical support to Water Reclamation District commercial inspectors by receiving and checking plans, updating accounts, issuing permits, collecting fees, providing customer service and maintaining a variety of related records and documents for commercial and residential customers.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

This is a technical classification in which sufficient skill has been developed through a combination of training and experience to conduct account audits, review plans, issue permits, and update accounts for commercial and residential properties according to District rules and procedures. This class is distinguished from other County and local agency permit technical support classes in that the duties relate to plan review and the issuance of permits as they pertain specifically to wastewater collection and discharge.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by the Office of Human Resources. Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the hiring interview.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND three (3) years of full-time clerical experience, preferably in a building construction or zoning setting, of which one (1) year of previous experience is reviewing plans. Two (2) years of coursework in a related field such as engineering, construction/construction trades, or drafting may be substituted for (2) years of the required experience.

Licensing and Certification: Specified positions may require possession of a valid Nevada Class C Driver's License at time of appointment.

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Completes account audits; plans readings and scannings; call center coverage; reads plans and provides fee quotes to customers as part of sewer permit issuance process. Accepts payments for sewer permit at front counter; answers phones and assists customers with billing, permit, invoice, and general information inquiries; updates and activates customer accounts as a result of reviewing and/or researching billing inspection results, title demands, and changes in assessor's records. Works independently at the county's Permit Application Center (satellite office) issuing System Development Approvals and accepts payments from customers as part of sewer permit issuance process. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team; uses standard office equipment, including computers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
